Seven Figure Females With Shaa Wasmund

In this episode of my myth-busting mini-series interviewing 7-Figure Females, I’m speaking to Shaa Wasmund about how she’s created a business that allows her 17 weeks a year holiday, what she’s changed in her business to double down on what she loves, and the lesson she learned from James Dyson. Listen in.

7-Figure Females is a mini-series on The Simply Smart Business Show where I set out to bust some myths around creating a 7-figure business as a female business owner, understand what it truly takes to get there, and inspire you to aim high.

Takeaways from this show:

  • Unless you’re Tony Robbins, the only way to get to seven figures is to find a way to scale with a digital product. Whether it’s an online course, membership site, or multiple group programmes, package the knowledge you have curated and put into practice over your career.
  • It’s important to understand your own personality and listen to your instinct, and also to recognise that there are many ways you can make six figures, and with the right team scale to seven figures. Find your path.
  • If you’re going down a path and it feels like a dead end road, sounds like a dead end road and smells like a dead end road, chances are that’s exactly what it is. Be prepared to get off that path entirely.
  • For longer-term services, put criterias in place for potential clients so they are definitely people you want to work with. You can’t want more for your clients than they want for themselves.
  • By experimenting and discovering what doesn’t work, you can get clear on the right path for your business and go all in on supporting, financing and doing everything you can to scale and make it fly.
  • You are allowed to grant yourself permission to stop doing something you don’t enjoy or doesn’t feel right even if it’s making money.
  • Getting a VA before you can afford them frees up your time to focus on marketing and the things that drive revenue to your business.
  • There’s a big difference between an online business manager (OBM) and a VA. You don’t need an OBM until you’re making $300,000 because they come in and look at the structure of your business. A project manager focuses on the project in hand, and a VA completes a list of tasks that you give them. An OBM oversees the project, but also looks at what’s coming on the horizon. They should be able to make decisions for themselves and add value with systems, processes and SOPs. They are building the scaffolding in your business for you – and to build a seven figure business, you’ve got to lay a strong structural foundation to support 7 floors.
  • Discipline and consistency are what it takes to excel in anything. Starting with health and fitness can be a great way to build the consistency muscle, e.g. if you put all your running stuff out at the end of your bed every night, you’ve got no excuse not to go for a run in the morning.
  • Whatever habit you want to get into, remove all the distractions. If you want to get focused on writing a book, switch everything off; all your notifications, switch your phone off, go and lock it away. Literally take your phone, put it in the car in the glove compartment, lock your car, come back in, switch everything off on your computer. Or even better, write, pen and paper.
  • Shaa’s unconventional advice for start-ups: Spend every penny you can afford on an amazing designer who can create a brand that is kick ass from day one. You want a brand that people automatically look at and think, “Wow, how do I not know about her already?” You need to immediately give people the context that you aren’t a one-hit wonder.
  • Your turnover as a business is vanity; What you take home in your pocket is sanity. On the journey to seven figures, make sure that at every new milestone, you are taking home more money in your own pocket instead of just looking at the top line turnover number.
