
Pinterest, once the platform of hobbyists and brides-to-be, has stepped into the social media spotlight.
It currently has 100 million active users. 93% of Pinners have shopped online in the past 6 months. 71% of Pinners use the platform to learn a specific skill. Users spend an average of 14 minutes on Pinterest each time they log on (as opposed to the 30 seconds they spend on your site).
This is where many of your ideal clients are hanging out, and if you’re not there too, you’re missing a trick.
So you have a Pinterest account. You have a series of boards filled with interesting and relevant content. How do you start engaging with people?
Contribute value
Use PinGroupie to identify popular group boards in your niche, and join 2 or 3.
Pin a variety of content to these boards, both your own and from other sources. While you’re there, pin 3-5 pieces of content from each of the group boards onto boards of your own, so that you keep popping up into other users’ notifications.
Cross post content
Share your Pinterest activity across your other platforms to drive traffic. There are a number of ways to do this:
- Install Pinterest Pinboard to show your recent pins in your blog’s sidebar
- Use IFTTT to pin your Instagram posts or Youtube videos
- Use Woobox to showcase your Pinterest feed on your Facebook page
Follow your fans
Find out who’s already been pinning your content by typing the following into your search bar:
http://www.pinterest.com/source/[yourURL]
Follow everyone who has taken the time to pin your images. Take it a step further and visit their profiles, liking or sharing 3-5 of their pins.
Again, you’ll pop up in their notifications, and strengthen an existing connection. This will encourage those users to once again visit your profile, share your content, and even click through to your website.
