Let’s talk about using compassion in our businesses

The “calling out” culture is all deeply ingrained in the online business world and it’s not empowering AT ALL. This is one of the reasons I wanted to record this series of Be the Change interviews in the first place!

In this installment, I’m joined by Ruth Kudzi to talk about compassion, and how we can use to become better coaches, better role models and actually get rid of some of the noise in the online space.

  • The playground nature of “calling people out” has created this culture where people are afraid to take action out of fear that they’re being judged. This isn’t a healthy way to operate – we all make mistakes!
  • Often the calling out stems from a place of feeling jealous, or slighted, or not good enough. Perhaps they don’t realise the power of the platform and of their words.
  • No one is happy when everyone is judging.
  • It seems like somewhere along the way, someone has made putting people down an acceptable marketing tactic, and it’s not! You can’t elevate yourself if you’re tearing others down.
  • When you’re really happy with yourself and who you are, it doesn’t really matter so much about what other people are saying. But when you’re feeling vulnerable, it’s another story altogether.
  • It’s our responsibility as leaders and role models to take care of those in our communities – that means exercising compassion wherever we can.
