Let’s talk about the importance of fostering deep friendships in the online business world.
Women are powerful as individuals, but together – in friendship groups, masterminds, partnerships and collaborations – there is nothing we can’t do.
Which is why I invited Laura Phillips, a launch strategist, growth mentor, founder of Love to Launch and my soul sister, to talk about the power of cultivating deep female friendships as an online business owner.
Three years ago, Laura and I were competitors. I didn’t know her, but she came on my radar when I noticed she was doing the most fabulous launch. It got to a point where it was so good, I thought, “I’ve got to tell her. This is going to be so weird, she doesn’t know who I am.” But from that one moment of woman-to-woman connection, magic has happened.

Takeaways from this show:
- If you’ve experienced difficult or competitive relationships with women, it can be challenging to trust enough to bring them into your inner circle.
- Support from other women who really get it, is so important when you’re on the entrepreneurial journey.
- In this online world, which can be surface level, it can be hard to create nourishing relationships with other women – especially if you get lost in the scroll and comparison.
- Instead of getting swept up in the sheer number of women who could become customers, mentors or friends, focus instead of cultivating a smaller circle for deeper relationships. Go deep instead of wide.
- Become more intentional about who you’re connecting with online. Don’t be afraid to clear space so you can create a nicer online experience.
- Be discerning about who you place that trust in, especially if you’ve been burned in the past. This becomes even more important as you become more visible.
- Be brave enough to create a sisterhood of openness, vulnerability and trust – there’s so much support and joy that can come from it.
- Move away from friendships that are no longer aligned, with kindness and love. The more in tune with your values and who you are, the better your friendships are going to be.
- A small mastermind of women, which is a safe space to both champion and call each other out, is hugely valuable but takes time and patience to build.
- Many entrepreneurs are looking for solutions to their problems; a magic fix, formula, blueprint, amazing mentor etc. What most people need is simply support around them.
- Male friendships and mentors can make you work harder, build more ambition and get stuff done. But building relationships, nurturing your team and willing to be vulnerable are feminine traits that we need more of.
Challenge time!
- Reach out to someone you admire and let them know how much you love their content, podcast or launch.
- Pay them a compliment, and see how it fills your heart with joy.
- Then go to the Simply Smart Business Facebook Group and tell me what happened from reaching out.
