Welcome to the latest episode of The Simply Smart Business Show. In this show, I’m talking about how to switch self-sabotage from a negative to a positive.

My view of mindset issues is that they’re an opportunity for growth – big waving flags that we need to look inwards.

Self-sabotage is something we all face at some point. Things will be going really well, we’ll be really clear on what we want, we’ll experience a taste of success and then BAM! You get in your way, you start doubting yourself, and start questioning if everything is about to go wrong.

You’ll tell yourself negative stories that will make you stall. You start focusing on the opposite of what you should. You’ll procrastinate. You’ll pick fights with people or just feel super wound up. You may even completely freeze.

When you become aware of this happening, you really need to treat it with respect and kindness and generosity – don’t just brush it aside.

Put together a little SOS toolkit that will help you out – here’s what mine looks like:

  • Stop, breathe and step away from your desk.
  • Journal – get everything out of your head and on paper.
  • Write down the negative consequences of what you want right now – explore those. Are they really negative? Do they need reframing?
  • Turn those negative thoughts into positive affirmations (and keep repeating them out loud).
  • Look at what you can remove from your to do list so you can reduce overwhelm.
