Belief. The one thing that can make or break you.

Let me dive straight in…

A lack of self-belief is one of the most common problems my clients have. It’s a pattern I’ve been noticing for a while now… even if it’s manifested in a number of different ways – overwhelm, lack of clarity, indecisiveness, stuckness…

The underlying problem for all of this? Belief!

And if you don’t first fix that belief element, you won’t be able to fix any of that other stuff.

So how do you go about working on those beliefs that are getting in the way?

Start by digging really deep and figuring out where that belief comes from. That might mean doing a lot of inner work – this stuff isn’t always so obvious… but it’s worth the effort.

I say this from personal experience. I spent years holding myself back because I believed “I am not enough”. It’s something that I’d been holding onto since childhood and it wasn’t until I’d dealt with those thoughts that I was able to fully move on and step up.

Here are a few actionable tips to help your work on your own sabotaging beliefs:

  • Sit down and try to think of the origins of those thoughts and ideas then just start writing. Journal your heart out and see what comes up.
  • If you’re the type who likes meditation, take some time to meditate, really feeling those feelings.
  • I’m a big fan of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, or tapping) for breaking free from particular thought patterns. I recommend you check out Marie Houlden or Brad Yates on Youtube for inspiration.
  • Create a mantra that’s the exact opposite of your negative belief.
